One month after his untimely passing, Juice WRLD’s cause of death has been revealed. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Officer shared on social media that the late rapper, whose real name is Jarad Higgins, died of an accidental overdose.

According to the statement, the “Lucid Dreams” musician’s autopsy revealed that he had oxycodone and codeine in his system. “The Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause and manner of death of 21-year-old Jarad A. Higgins. Higgins died as a result of oxycodone and codeine toxicity. The manner of death is [an] accident,” the statement read.

On December 8, 2019, Juice suffered a seizure while walking through Chicago’s Midway airport. Law enforcement claimed that Juice “was bleeding from the mouth when paramedics arrived on the scene.” After arriving at the hospital, Juice was pronounced dead.

Following his passing, many expressed their sadness on social media. Juice’s girlfriend, Ally Lotti, explained to the Rolling Loud audience in December 2019 that Juice loved his fans.

“I just wanted to come out here and let everyone know that Jarad loved every single person that he helped on this earth. He literally loved every single one of you guys,” she said of Juice who was scheduled to perform at the event. “There is not a time when he had shown me any different love than he felt for you. He wants everyone to know that you need to take any negative, any negative thing in your life, he would tell you every time he saw you and change that to a positive situation.”

Like Ally, Juice’s former collaborator, Nicki Minaj, also shared her thoughts after learning the devastating news. While accepting her award at the Billboard Women In Music Awards in December 2019, the New York native described her friend as a “kindred spirit.”

“I felt like he was a kindred spirit, and looking back now, I wish I did something differently or said something to help,” Nicki recalled. “He spoke to me in detail about how in love he was with his girlfriend and how passionate he was about music and when he was in the studio with me, he did so many songs, so quickly.”
